Can ChatGPT post to Instagram?

You want to type a request into ChatGPT and see a finished post on Instagram, without downloading images, pasting captions and switching apps. Here is what actually works in 2026, and exactly where each step happens.

The short answer

ChatGPT has no built-in Instagram publishing. It can write a caption or generate an image, but on its own it has no connection to your Instagram account, so every session ends in a download and a copy-paste. Connecting ChatGPT to Adly AI through Adly MCP changes that workflow. You ask ChatGPT for the post in plain language, Adly produces the on-brand design and caption from your saved brand, and you review, revise and approve both inside the ChatGPT conversation. The approved post then waits in your Adly account, which is linked to Instagram through Meta sign-in, and one publish or schedule step sends it out as a feed post, carousel, Reel or Story. Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn and X can go out from the same post. Adly MCP is included on the Solo plan ($49 per month) and higher.

How the connection works

Where each step happens

Three places, one request. Knowing the split tells you exactly where to look at each stage, and why nothing reaches your feed by accident.

  1. Inside ChatGPT

    Where you talk

    • Name the brand and describe the post
    • Follow the job status as Adly works
    • Approve the design or ask for edits
    • Approve the caption
  2. Inside Adly

Where the work and the accounts live

    • Brand profile, Brand Knowledge photos and saved templates shape the output
    • The approved post waits in your posts
    • Pick accounts, then publish now or schedule on the Calendar
  3. On Instagram

    Where your audience sees it

    • Feed post, carousel, Reel or Story goes live on the account you connected through Meta
    • Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn and X can go out from the same approved post

The same connection reaches well past Instagram posts. Videos, Scene Studio commercials, landing pages and an overview of your Meta ad accounts and campaigns all sit behind it, and the guide to running Adly marketing workflows from ChatGPT and Claude covers the full range.

The conversation

One chat, from request to approved Instagram post

A recreated example session. The brand and wording are illustrative. The order of steps matches the real Adly workflow: create the job, check status, approve the design, approve the caption, then publish.

Illustration of the flow, recreated for this guide.

  1. A

    Brand comes first

If you run more than one brand, name it. ChatGPT searches your Adly brands and selects the right one, so colors, logo and tone come from your profile.

  2. B

    Status, as it happens

Adly runs the job and ChatGPT checks its status, so you know when the design is ready without opening another tab.

  3. C

    Edits in plain words

"Shorter headline on slide 1" is a complete edit request. Adly reworks the design and returns the new version to the chat.

  4. D

    Two approvals

Design first, then caption. It is the same approval gate Adly uses in the web app, so nothing half-finished slips through.

  5. E

    The publish step

Open Adly and the approved post is there. Tick Instagram, add Facebook or LinkedIn if you like, then publish or schedule. You stay in control of what goes live and when.

Setup

Connect it once, then just ask

No Meta developer app, no Graph API tokens, no automation chains to maintain. Five steps, done once per account.

  1. 1

    Connect Instagram inside Adly

In Adly, connect your Instagram account through Meta's own sign-in screen. Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn and X connect from the same place, each through its own sign-in. You never handle a raw API token.

  2. 2

    Give Adly your brand

Fill in the brand profile, then add Brand Knowledge photos (storefront, products, team, before and after work) and a few style examples. This is why a one-line request from ChatGPT comes back in your colors, with your logo and your real products.

  3. 3

    Create your Adly MCP connection

On Solo or higher, open Profile, then Adly MCP, and generate your connection key. It ties ChatGPT to your Adly account, with the same brands and usage limit you already have. New to the protocol? Here is how MCP enables AI tools to connect to external platforms.

  4. 4

    Add Adly to ChatGPT

In ChatGPT's connector settings, add the Adly MCP endpoint with that key. After this one-time step, any conversation can call Adly as soon as you mention your brand.

  5. 5

    Ask, approve, publish

Name the brand, the format and the offer. Approve the design, approve the caption, then publish or schedule from Adly to the accounts you choose.

Formats

What a ChatGPT request can become

Every Instagram format, plus the other networks connected to your Adly account. Ask for the format by name and Adly builds for it.

DestinationFormatsGood to know
InstagramFeed postCarouselReelStoryDesigns, price promos, tips carousels, presenter videos and Scene Studio commercials in 9:16
FacebookFeed postStoryThe same approved creative, posted alongside Instagram
TikTokVideoPhoto postVideos post as TikTok videos, images post as photo posts
LinkedInProfile postUp to 9 images or one video
XPostSolo and up: up to 4 images or one video, 280 characters

Stories go to Instagram and Facebook. TikTok, LinkedIn and X take feed posts, so ask ChatGPT for a feed version whenever you plan a Story. For a steady week of content, pair this with automated scheduling for Meta and Instagram from the Adly Calendar.

Plans

Which Adly plan covers ChatGPT

The ChatGPT connection starts on Solo. If chat control is what you are after and ChatGPT itself is optional, the lower plans have their own assistant.

Spark and Launch

$19 or $29 per month

Chat inside Adly

Autopilot, the Think with me assistant in the Adly dashboard, takes plain language requests, creates the post, and publishes or schedules approved content to Instagram and Facebook.

Solo

$49 per month

ChatGPT, Claude and Cursor

Adly MCP, so ChatGPT can pick your brand, create the post and run approvals. Solo also adds publishing to X, Adly in Telegram and Adly in WhatsApp.

Growth

$119 per month

Several brands

Everything in Solo, plus multi-brand jobs for running one creative across many brands, and VIP support.

Every plan runs on a monthly usage limit covering images, text, video and landing pages. Requests you make from ChatGPT draw from the same usage limit as work you do in the Adly web app.

Output

What comes back is finished creative

ChatGPT on its own hands you a caption and maybe one image to design around. A request routed through Adly returns a designed post or a video built from your brand profile, ready for the approval steps. A few pieces from the Adly showcase:

A woman speaking to the camera in a home setting, explaining how an AI marketing tool creates content pieces based on business directions.
Graphic with text ARE YOU READY FOR MULTIPLIED SALES? and glowing numbers on a dark blue background.
A glowing light blue headline, ARE YOU READY FOR MULTIPLIED SALES?, over 3D numbers on a dark background.
Three mobile phones showing expense tracking software with charts and text reading Control your budget! above.
Three phone screens showing an expense tracking app under the headline Control your budget!, with a Download Now button.

Avoid these

Four mistakes that stall ChatGPT to Instagram posting

Most failed attempts come down to setup order or format mismatch. Each one takes a minute to fix.

  1. MISTAKE 1

    Skipping the brand step

A request without a brand profile and Brand Knowledge photos comes back generic. Ten minutes of brand setup is what makes a one-line prompt look like your shop.

  2. MISTAKE 2

    Connecting ChatGPT before Instagram

If Instagram is not linked in Adly yet, the approved post has no destination to show. Connect Meta first, then add Adly to ChatGPT.

  3. MISTAKE 3

Planning a Story for TikTok or LinkedIn

Stories publish to Instagram and Facebook. Ask for a feed version in the same request so TikTok, LinkedIn and X get a post too.

  4. MISTAKE 4

    One caption for every network

X caps posts at 280 characters with up to 4 images or one video. LinkedIn takes up to 9 images. Ask ChatGPT for a short X version while it writes the Instagram caption.

Questions buyers ask

Before you connect

Does ChatGPT ever see my Instagram password?

No. Instagram connects to Adly through Meta's own sign-in screen. ChatGPT talks to Adly through your Adly MCP connection and never handles your Instagram login.

Can I make Reels from ChatGPT, or only images?

Reels work. Through Adly you can ask for presenter style videos, product videos, talking characters, short animated clips, or a multi-scene Scene Studio commercial of up to about 60 seconds in 9:16. Approve it in the chat, then publish it to Instagram as a Reel from Adly.

Is anything published without my say?

No. The design and the caption each need your approval, and the post only goes live when you publish or schedule it in Adly with the accounts you picked.

Does the same setup work with Claude?

Yes. Adly MCP also works with Claude and Cursor, on the same Adly account, brands and usage limit. The steps are close to identical, and the guide to connecting Claude to Instagram and Facebook walks through them.

Can Instagram posting run on autopilot?

Schedule any approved post from the Adly Calendar. For hands-off weekly content, Adly Automations prepare weekly post ideas and holiday creatives per brand, which you approve from email in one tap or let publish directly to the networks you choose. Here is how to post to Meta automatically with that setup.

Ask ChatGPT for the post. Let Adly put it on Instagram.

Connect Instagram, set up your brand once, add Adly MCP to ChatGPT, and your next carousel, Reel or Story starts as a single message.
