Why people look beyond Buffer

Buffer is a good scheduler. It is simple, it costs $6 per channel a month on Essentials ($5 billed yearly), and its free plan covers 3 channels with 10 scheduled posts each. If that fits you, you may not need to switch.

People usually look elsewhere for one of three reasons: the per-channel price grows with every profile and client, the AI assistant writes text but makes no images or videos, or they need a shared inbox, a visual grid planner or self-hosting.

Each alternative below lists who it is best for, the starting monthly price, what it does well and its limits. Prices come from official pricing pages, checked in September 2026. Only weighing Adly against Buffer? Read Adly vs Buffer.

What to look for in a Buffer alternative

The networks you actually post to

Start with your own list. Some tools cover 10 to 32 networks, others fewer. Missing the one network you need rules a tool out.

A pricing model that fits how you grow

Tools charge per channel, account, user, social set or one flat plan. Price it for the profiles and people you will have in a year.

Creation, not only scheduling

Most schedulers publish what you already made. Check whether the AI only writes captions or also makes images and videos, and whether they look like your brand.

Your language and your market

If you sell in Arabic, test how well the tool writes Arabic copy and how its interface reads before you commit.

API, MCP and AI assistants

Posting from ChatGPT, Claude or your own code? Check which plan unlocks the API or MCP, and whether the assistant creates content or only schedules it.

Free plan, trial and limits

Test with real posts first. Read the limits: posts per profile, the AI usage limit, and which networks the cheapest tier leaves out.

1. Adly: when you want the posts made, then published

Best for: small businesses and agencies that need the content made, not just scheduled.

Starting price: $19 a month (Spark, 1 brand). X publishing starts on Solo at $49 a month.

What it does well

  • Creates on-brand ad designs, posts and carousels from a short brief or a product photo, with your logo and colors.
  • Makes UGC style, animated, multi-scene and product studio videos.
  • Writes ad copy and captions in Arabic or English, built for the Arab market.
  • Publishes and schedules to Facebook Pages, Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn on every paid plan, and to X on Solo and up.
  • Flat plans by brand: Solo covers 5 brands, Growth covers 30.

Limits

  • Five networks today. YouTube, Pinterest and Threads are not supported.
  • LinkedIn posts go to a personal profile, and links are removed from X posts.
  • No free plan, though you can try Adly free.
  • No public posting API, only Adly MCP for Claude (Solo and up, approved by the Adly team) and a ChatGPT plugin.
  • No shared inbox or social listening.

2. Post Bridge: simple posting to many accounts

Best for: creators and teams who already make their content and want to post it to many accounts at one flat price.

Starting price: $39 a month on Marketer ($32.50 billed yearly), with a 7-day trial.

What it does well

  • 15 accounts and unlimited posts on Marketer. Operator is $99 a month for 99 accounts, then $1 per extra account.
  • 10 networks: X, Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, Bluesky, Threads, Pinterest and Google Business.
  • API and MCP included, and you can post from ChatGPT and Claude.

Limits

  • No built-in AI. It distributes content, so the designs, videos and captions have to come from somewhere else.
  • The entry price is higher than Buffer’s if you only have two or three channels.

3. Publer: low per-account pricing and bulk scheduling

Best for: budget-minded teams that post to many networks, including Telegram, and schedule in bulk.

Starting price: free for 3 accounts. Professional is $5 per account a month ($4 billed yearly).

  • A free plan: 1 user, 3 accounts and 10 scheduled posts per account.
  • 13 networks, including TikTok, YouTube, Threads, Pinterest, Google Business, Telegram and WordPress.
  • Bulk scheduling of up to 500 posts, plus post recycling.
  • Broad AI: captions, hashtags, alt text, replies, blog articles, brand voice and AI images, in 80+ languages.

Limits

  • X is not on the free plan.
  • API, MCP and unlimited AI need Business: $10 per account a month ($8 billed yearly).
  • We found no video generation.

4. Later: visual planning for Instagram and TikTok

Best for: brands and creators who plan Instagram and TikTok visually and rely on Link in Bio.

Starting price: $25 a month on Starter ($18.75 billed yearly), with a 14-day trial.

What it does well

  • Visual planning for Instagram and TikTok, plus Link in Bio, UGC collection and analytics.
  • Starter includes one social set of 8 profiles: Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Pinterest, LinkedIn, YouTube, Threads and Snapchat.

Limits

  • No X.
  • Starter allows 30 posts per profile a month, 1 user and an AI usage limit of 5 a month. Growth ($50) and Scale ($110) raise the limits.
  • The AI is text only: captions and ideas.
  • No free plan, and we found no public API or MCP.

5. Hootsuite: the full suite for larger teams

Best for: larger teams and companies that need a shared inbox, social listening, approvals, reporting and ads management in one place.

Starting price: $99 per user a month on Standard, billed yearly, with 10 social accounts and a 14-day trial.

What it does well

  • 10 networks, including TikTok, YouTube, X, Threads, Pinterest, WhatsApp and Bluesky.
  • AI (OwlyWriter and Wisdom AI) writes posts, captions and hashtags and makes images, with an AI usage limit of 100 a month.
  • MCP connectors for ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot and Gemini, plus a REST API for approved developers.

Limits

  • The most expensive option here, priced per user. Professional is $199 and Advanced $399 per user a month.
  • No free plan, and we found no video generation.
  • More than most small businesses need.

6. Postiz: open source and self-hostable

Best for: developers and technical teams that want open source, self-hosting, the widest network list, or AI agents posting through an API.

Starting price: free to self-host. Hosted Standard is $29 a month ($23 billed yearly) for 5 channels, with a 7-day trial.

What it does well

  • Open source under AGPL-3.0, so you can run it on your own server.
  • Up to 32 providers, including Reddit, Discord, Bluesky and Mastodon.
  • API and MCP on every plan, built with AI agents in mind.
  • AI captions, images, videos and video clipping.

Limits

  • Self-hosting means getting your own app approval from each network.
  • Standard includes 0 AI images and 3 AI videos. More needs Team ($39: 100 images, 10 videos) or Pro ($49: 300 images, 30 videos).
  • It has an Arabic interface, but it is machine translated.

How to choose

Start with what actually slows you down.

  • You have nothing ready to post: Adly designs the posts and videos, writes the copy in Arabic or English, and publishes them.
  • Your content is ready and you run many accounts: Post Bridge gives you 15 accounts for $39 a month.
  • Budget comes first: Publer’s free plan and $5 per account pricing, or Buffer’s own free plan.
  • Your Instagram and TikTok grid matters most: Later’s visual planner and Link in Bio.
  • You are a larger team: Hootsuite for the inbox, listening, approvals and reports.
  • You want control of the code: Postiz, self-hosted or hosted.

You can also combine tools: make and publish your Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn and X posts in Adly, and keep a scheduler for YouTube or Pinterest. And if Buffer already does everything you need, staying with it is a fine choice.
