How to check a YouTube title

  1. 1

    Paste your title

Up to 100 characters, the YouTube maximum. The counter updates as you type.

  2. 2

    Add a target keyword (optional)

The phrase you expect people to search, such as “iPhone camera tips”. The checker looks for it near the start of the title.

  3. 3

    Read the score and fix

Each check passes or fails with a short tip. Edit the title and check again until the important words sit before the cut.

What it checks

Character counter

Counts your title against YouTube’s 100 character maximum.

Desktop and mobile preview

Shows where the title is likely cut in search: after about 70 characters on desktop and about 55 on mobile.

Length sweet spot

Flags titles outside the 40 to 70 character range that works for most videos.

Keyword placement

Checks that your target keyword appears near the start, where both viewers and search notice it.

Number check

Numbers like “5 mistakes” or “in 10 minutes” set clear expectations, so the checker notes whether your title has one.

Caps and symbols

Warns about ALL CAPS words, too many emojis and stacked exclamation marks.

Misleading clickbait

Flags words that promise more than a video may deliver, so you can decide whether the claim is fair.

Private

Checks run in your browser. Your title is not sent to our servers.

What makes a good YouTube title

A YouTube title has two jobs: tell search what the video is about, and give a person a reason to click. YouTube allows 100 characters, but search results usually cut the title after about 70 characters on desktop and about 55 on mobile. Anything past that may never be read, so the words that matter most belong at the start.

Most strong titles land between 40 and 70 characters. Lead with the phrase people search for, add a specific detail such as a number, a result or a time frame, and keep the promise honest. A title that oversells may win the click, but viewers leave in the first seconds when the video does not match.

Avoid ALL CAPS words, rows of exclamation marks and piles of emojis. In a list of results they look like spam. One emoji or one capitalized word for emphasis is plenty. The thumbnail works with the title too: the two should add to each other, not repeat the same words.

Once the title is ready, the free YouTube tag generator can suggest tags based on it.

YouTube title FAQs

What is the YouTube title character limit?

100 characters. YouTube Studio will not save a longer title.

How long should a YouTube title be?

Between 40 and 70 characters is a good rule of thumb. That is specific enough to be useful and still shows almost in full in desktop search.

Where does YouTube cut titles in search results?

After about 70 characters on desktop and about 55 on mobile. It depends on letter widths and screen size, so the preview is an estimate.

Should the keyword be at the start?

Where you can, yes. The first words are always visible and tell both viewers and search what the video covers. Keep the sentence natural.

Do numbers really help?

Numbers make a title concrete and help people decide quickly. Use them only when the video really has a list, a result or a time frame.

Why does it flag ALL CAPS and emojis?

All caps words, emoji piles and stacked exclamation marks read as shouting or spam. Use them sparingly, if at all.

What counts as misleading clickbait?

Words that exaggerate or promise something the video does not deliver. The checker flags common examples, and you decide whether your claim is fair.

Does a high score guarantee more views?

No. The score checks title basics only. The topic, the thumbnail and the video itself matter at least as much.

Is my title sent anywhere?

No. All checks run in your browser.

Can Adly publish to YouTube?

No. Adly publishes and schedules to Instagram, Facebook Pages, TikTok, your LinkedIn profile and X (on Solo and up). You can use it to make designs and short videos that promote your YouTube videos there.
