How to calculate end of service in 4 steps

  1. 1

    Choose the country

Saudi Arabia or the UAE. The wage base and formula are different, so do not mix them.

  2. 2

    Enter wage and dates

In Saudi Arabia use last wage including fixed allowances. In the UAE use basic wage only.

  3. 3

    Select the exit reason

Resignation, employer termination, or contract expiry. In Saudi Arabia, resignation can reduce the award under article 85.

  4. 4

    Read the breakdown, then print

You see the amount, each service year, and a short legal note. Use Print or PDF before any settlement.

How end of service is calculated in Saudi Arabia and the UAE

How Saudi Arabia calculates it

Under article 84 of the Labour Law, the worker is entitled to an award equal to half a month's wage for each of the first five years and a full month's wage for each year after that. The base is the last wage, and a fraction of a year is pro-rated by days. Enter last wage including fixed allowances that form part of wage, not irregular variable bonuses.

Resignation changes the amount

If the contract ends by the worker's resignation, article 85 applies: under 2 years = none, 2 years to under 5 = one third, 5 years to under 10 = two thirds, and 10 years or more = the full accrual. Employer termination or contract expiry are usually calculated under article 84 without that reduction.

When resignation is not reduced

Article 87 excepts cases including force majeure and a woman resigning within six months of marriage or three months of childbirth. Tick the exception in the calculator to remove the article 85 reduction. Article 80 may forfeit the award if termination is for a listed lawful cause; the tool shows a warning and does not compute forfeiture because it cannot try the facts.

How the UAE calculates it

Under article 51 of Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021, a full-time worker who completed one year of continuous service is entitled to 21 days of basic wage for each of the first five years and 30 days for each later year, plus a pro-rata fraction. Daily basic = monthly basic × 12 ÷ 365. This decree-law does not reduce gratuity for resignation. The total cannot exceed two years' wage; a banner appears if the cap applies.

All-in wage or basic wage

For Saudi Arabia enter last wage including fixed allowances. For the UAE enter basic wage only: housing and transport allowances are excluded here. Check the contract and what MOHRE or the employer platform treated as basic wage.

After the estimate you may need a settlement invoice or a VAT figure. Use the invoice generator and VAT calculator, or the QR code generator to share a settlement link.

What this calculator does not cover

  • Unused leave balances.
  • Notice pay or payment in lieu of notice.
  • Contractual extras above the statute.
  • Domestic workers and other regimes outside the Labour Law / Decree-Law 33/2021.
  • GOSI-style schemes or a written alternative end-of-service arrangement, if any.

This is not legal or financial advice. The result is an educational estimate under the cited articles. A court or the competent authority (HRSD in Saudi Arabia, MOHRE in the UAE) decides a dispute.

End of service calculator FAQs

How are fractions of a year counted?

A complete year counts in full. The remaining days are divided by 365. In Saudi Arabia that fraction multiplies half a month or a full month by year rank. In the UAE it multiplies 21 or 30 days of basic wage.

Is housing allowance included in end of service?

In the UAE, no: this tool uses basic wage only and excludes housing and transport. In Saudi Arabia enter last wage including fixed allowances, not irregular variable allowances.

I resigned after 3 years in Saudi Arabia. What do I get?

Between two and five years you get one third of the accrued award under article 85, unless an article 87 exception applies. Example: SAR 10,000 and 3 years 7 months yields one third of the accrual, not the full amount.

Does dismissal forfeit end of service?

Saudi article 80 may forfeit the award if a listed lawful cause is established. The tool does not judge the case; it only shows a warning when you choose employer termination. In the UAE, check the decree-law grounds and your contract.

What is the UAE maximum end of service gratuity?

Article 51 caps the award at two years' wage (24 months of basic). If the raw figure exceeds that, the tool shows a banner and uses the cap. Saudi articles 84 and 85 do not set a similar general cap.

When do I receive the end of service award?

Usually with final settlement after the last working day. Saudi article 88 requires payment within one week if the worker ended the contract, and within two weeks in other cases. UAE timing follows the decree-law and the contract. This calculator does not set the pay date.

Do you store my wage or personal data?

No. The math runs in your browser. Wage and dates are not sent to our servers for this tool.

Can I rely on this result in a labour dispute?

No. It is an educational estimate, not a legal opinion or court evidence. The figure can change with the contract, which allowances count, the exit reason, and any written alternative. Take advice or ask the competent authority before signing a clearance.
